Powell is one of Houston’s leading commercial writers, with over 12 years of experience in business-to-business marketing strategy and creative. His clients have included major corporations such as Halliburton, Apache Corporation, Marathon Oil, ExpressJet Airlines, CenterPoint Energy and Schlumberger.
A former Board Member of the American Marketing Association, Powell holds a BBA in marketing from Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University and studied international marketing at University College in London. The author or co-author of a half-dozen books, including Houston Then and Now and Austin Then and Now, he currently teaches a course at Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Education called: “Writing for Marketing and Public Relations.”
His work has been published in dozens of consumer magazines and newspapers, including Texas Highways, the LA Daily News, the Dallas Morning News, Houston Business Journal, the Houston Chronicle, the Mountain Mail and Texas’ oldest newspaper, the Galveston Daily News.
Powell has published over 100 bylined or ghostwritten trade articles, with a heavy emphasis on energy and technology. He has provided professional content direction, writing and editing services for internal communications efforts at Schlumberger, Diamond Offshore, Apache Corporation, CyrusOne, Enventure and Global Santa Fe (prior to the Transocean buyout).
